Where can I buy a Chinese Mahjong set in Melbourne?
Hi guys, I'm looking to buy a game of Mahjong to Chinese (not Western) Characters in Melbourne. I intend to be a Christmas present. Any idea where to look? I have checked all the games from the shops, but only sticky plastic stock. Thanks

Mahjong's popularity has expanded greatly worldwide, but it remains unclear how the game became.
One particular story is the game was created in 500 BC Confucius, Chinese philosopher. He said it was about creating the set of elements in your life and the places they had visited. By example, Confucius said that the name of the mahjong game due to his fondness for birds. Experts suggest that it is more likely to consider a myth that there is no evidence so far showing mahjong existed before the 19th century.
Another theory suggests that particular game was founded during the Rebellion Taipeng by Chinese military officers as a means to pass the time. Some stories suggest it was created in 1870 by a nobleman in Shanghai and another suggest that was created in early 1850 by two brothers from Ningbo.
But perhaps the most credible of all theories is that it derives from a Chinese card game called Madiao at the time of the Ming Dynasty. This game consists of cards paper numbered one through forty-nine in four different suits. This numbering system is very similar to the structure of mahjong tiles.
In 1949, the game of Mah Jong was banned in China by the government because of its association with the game activitiy was considered a symbol of capitalist corruption. However, the game was revived after the Cultural Revolution and has become a favorite pastime around the world.
In 1895, the game of Mahjong was first written in a language other than Chinese by an American named Stewart Culin. In 1910, he has also written several Japanese and French. However, the first time the game had its greatest impact among Western culture was in 1920, when a brand Amercan game took off and became popular in New York.
In the end 1920, the game was adopted by the United States and received different names, like "The Game of Thousands of Intelligence" and "Pung Chow". The Americans mah jong started throwing nights with Chinese decoration to simulate the oriental atmosphere. It became a fad so popular that several hit songs were written about it, for example, "Since Ma is playing Mah Jong" by Eddie Cantor.
In the 1930s, the formation of the National Mah Jongg League emerged as a means to establish a standardization of rules as there were many variations. The league developed the first official rules were called "Maajh: The American version the ancient Chinese game.
In recent times, the popularity of Mah Jong has seen several tournaments held in North America with players getting official classifications sanctioned by the American Mah Jong. While the popularity of Mahjong has certainly increased worldwide, yet is much more dominant in Asian cultures.
In recent studies, the popular game of Mah Jong is said to have beneficial effects for those with dementia or those who have difficulty with memory, which in turn has resulted in the development of therapy involving Mah Jong.
What does the future hold for Mahjong? This popularity is not slowing in the short term, and I suspect it will reach a worldwide stage much bigger tournaments with more spectacular, involving people from all cultures.
