25 years of Swords Fantasy in the cinema: a retrospective
Conan film with Arnold Schwarzenegger, was released in 1982 and the sword called "The Atlantis was designed specifically for the film and the actor. He was given an important role in the film, having played an important role in the stories Conan and the novels of Robert E. Howard. The sword itself proved very popular and the replicas are created for sale on the mass market. Twenty-five years late replicas of Atlantis are still manufactured and sold. Highlander films (first installment launched in 1986) are another good example of the sword as a centerpiece of the film. Blade (1996-2004) is a series of vampire movies that use a variety of weapons, including air, whips and guns. While the trend in movies was to create exact replicas of the period of the film series moved the whole trend towards the creation of great sheets representing wielders personality. Each main character in the movies has his own or his own weapon. Each weapon is unique and readily available in mass market for collectors.
Eragon (2006) continues the tradition of unique fantasy sword in which the main character wields a sword called Zar'roc beautiful. This sword has a blue sapphire mounted in the base of the grip and the sword itself has a significant and symbolism. This plays an important role in the film and paper important in the world collection of replicas.
The last twenty-five years of cinema has given us a wonderful selection of fantasy swords that are accurate reproductions of actual swords creations of the past and exciting fantasy that never existed except in the minds of writers and blacksmiths. This trend started with Conan and the next twenty years are sure to get even more incredible selection of guns and swords in the movies.
