Surnames German during World War II?

I'm doing a character profile for my novel, and tried to investigate possible names, but Instead of modern names Looking for names that were popular or even existed only during the second world war, because that is where my novel is based. So if you have any "Last Name German" suggestions, I love it. My characters name is "Wilhelm" I learned that it became a popular name, without however, you choose a name.

The German Shepherd dog breed has its origins in the late 1800s when Max von Stephanitz of Germany began to develop a breed which later became the dog we know today as the German Shepherd.Von Stephanitz desired to produce a breed of dog that could be used as an all-around working dog.

Developed from farms and breeding dogs of his time, von Stephanitz original German Shepherd was derived from a herding dog he acquired in 1899, and he and his friend Artur Meyer formed the Verein für Deutsche Schäferhund which was the first club in the German shepherd dog breed history. This club and von Stephanitz maintains a tight grip on the race until his death in 1936.

It was determined that the dogs used to breed on the basis of how well they did in various shows and trials that were the precursors the Schutzhund tests performed today. His main criterion for judging the success of a dog went to its usefulness, along with his intelligence. Von Stephanitz also promoted the usefulness of the race to which the German government for work in police and military, and other multipurpose uses as a working dog breed.
History German Shepherd breed

Following the creation of the German Shepherd von Stephanitz in 1900, the breed's popularity soared and soon became one of Germany's most popular dogs. Serve in the Second World War I and II, the German shepherd dog was a favorite of soldiers, mainly in Germany, but the American and British soldiers were impressed by the race and took the dog after two wars.

In fact, one of the most popular in Germany sheep dog was Rin Tin Tin, of French origin, and brought to America, an American soldier following the First World War. Rin Tin Tin went on to make 26 films until his death in 1932 and contributed to the enormous popularity of the breed.

Besides their use in police and army Arenas, German shepherds have a history useful in other areas, is known as a show dog successfully and has been a popular family pet. German Shepherds were the first dogs used as seeing eye dogs, in the 1920s and Helen Keller, an avid dog lover, owned a pair of German shepherds.

The first German Shepherd Club in the United States was formed in 1913 and the breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club in 1908. Immediately recognizable, the German Shepherd remains a popular breed of dog, and the German shepherd is constantly in the top five most popular registered breeds, as determined by the AKC.
