What should I consider when choosing between a poker table and an octagon-style table Texas Hold Em?
I want to buy a poker table or table for my husband, but knows very little about the game. Is it better to play poker at home with "the boys"? The classic poker table or oblong Texas Hold Em-style table is a matter of preference or not the shape of the table something really?
I have directed a poker club in Arkansas for more than 3 years, and found that the closer you can get to a round table, the better. With an octagon, everyone can see the cards, it is easier to treat, and raking chips (win a hand) is easier. An oval-shaped table makes it difficult for players on the ends to see the cards to deal the cards, and rake a pot. The only way an oval table would be a good use is if the kids had a full time dealer who sat in the middle of the table and control the game. This seldom happens with "the boys". Normally, each person takes turns to face. On a side note, I would recommend the purchase of her husband, two decks plastic card. Last forever! If you spill a liquid on them, can be erased and it still works! Even you can wash in the dishwasher. They are called "Copag" or "Kem" Cards.
