The Old Man and the Sea is the story of a fierce battle between an old Cuban fisherman and a great fish. Santiago had fish for 84 days without fish or a fish. It was so bad luck his young friend and apprentice, Manolin, was forced by his parents to abandon the old and the fish to another boat that will be more profitable.
But the boy loved the old man and visited him every night in his cottage in old ruins. He talk about fishing, bring food and discussing American baseball, especially Joe Di Maggio, the great hero of old. James would tell the boy that his long period of bad luck would end soon because every day was to leave until he was more successful again.
After his boat sailed well beyond the coast of the island in the Gulf Stream on the 85th day of the arid, the old man caught a marlin enormous. the fish was so big that James could not pull it and its place in the needle began to pull the boat.
For three days and nights, the giant fish pulled the boat with the line connected to the old, the cut in the back and shoulders. The pain he suffered was extreme, especially when the fish lunged and leaped for freedom, but the old man stood his ground, determined to fight this great warrior to death.
After three days of fighting fish was exhausting, but the old man was also conducting. With a heroic effort last Santiago managed to get the needle to the side of the boat, the thrust of the harpoon massive head, ending the fight with his noble and courageous fighter.
Wounded and weary, but proud and happy, the old tied the big fish at the side of boat and head for home. The smell of blood trail sharks alerted and soon reaches the channel numbers to attack the giant. The man fought bravely but in the assassination the first group of predators who lost his only weapon of defense, the harpoon, leaving him with only an old knife attacked an oar. He managed to killing several more sharks, but kept coming and was powerless to stop devouring the delicious meat of the big needle.
When the old man got home at dawn, only had a skeleton of the fish still attached to the side of the boat. Feeling sad and guilty for going too far and killing the big needle and noble that shuffled up the hill to his cabin and fell into a deep sleep.
The old ship was in the spotlight next morning, fishermen looked with amazement at the size of the fish skeleton attached to his side, knowing nothing of the struggle and suffering, the old man had suffered.
Young, ManolĂn I was so happy to find the old man safe at home in bed, was moved to tears and brought him coffee, food news and baseball scores.
The old and the boy agreed to resume fishing as partners again.
THE AUTHOR.
When the Old Man and the Sea was published in 1952 sealed the legacy of Ernest Hemingway as one of the greatest writers of our time.
Born in Illinois in 1899, the son of a physician and professor of music I had already written important books: The sun shines too. 1926. Farewell to Arms. 1929. For Whom the Bell Tolls. 1940. But worldwide success of The Old Man and the sea threw him to a new level. He won the Pulitzer Prize 1953 and was instrumental in him getting Nonel Prize for Literature in 1954.
Unfortunately, it would be his latest novel. He suffered periods of severe depression and committed suicide in 1961. a sad end for a literary voice.

Tues Another book epic is "the sea shouting"
This new book is inspired by a true sea tragedy that occurred off Malta in 2008. A fishing boat exploded in a hellish fire and sinks into the depths of the Mediterranean. A child clings to his father for six days in a makeshift raft without food no water, while on land, his mother prays that the massive air and sea search found. A fascinating story of intense human drama.
