Bots Online Poker – threat or not?

Introduction

Online games of chess and backgammon to 1 handles person are filled with people who use play or computer-assisted computer robots – even when there is money involved. In this article I will explain how I developed a poker bot and what I learned from this experience. Anatomy of an Online Poker Bot

There are three basic parts of a poker bot. 1) Collection data – observing the game state and history 2) Data Processing – using information from the data collected to determine whether to fold, call or raise. 3) Output – Pressing the button in the poker room client.

My Poker Bot

My program was written in early 2004 with Microsoft. Net and C + + was developed for play in a room online only. For the technically minded the program relied heavily on MFC and Win32 API. 1) Data Collection My bot all the information of the game state and history of online poker tables by taking repeated images and image analysis. To begin I just observed games, taking screenshots automatically to collect data on the position of the cards, chips and button. In determining the color of a few pixels sure it was able to gather all this information about the state of the game. Eventually I was able to collect data from multiple poker tables (4 at a time) repeatedly bringing each window to the foreground and take a screenshot. From this screen I was able to find my letters, cards on the table, the position Button, who stood in, hand pot size and player bet sizes. 2) Data processing This is the component that eventually bought my robot project poker to an end, unable to develop a strategy strong enough to win consistently. I tried various rules based on neural networks and simulation techniques. At best my bot was able to make a very small profit at $ 2.1 and $ 4.2 $ limit hold'em, but nowhere near the thousands of dollars a week I figured win when I started the project. In the end, it was not worth my time to continue putting resources into developing my poker bot. 3) Output This was the most to write. Programming was moving the mouse pointer to the appropriate screen co-ordinates and then sending a mouse / mouse commands signaling left mouse button. I took into consideration the addition of the ability for the bot to use chat but never got that far.

Conclusion

Although it may find a poker game while playing online bot most likely to play very badly. At any level of play that are much more likely to run into a human expert player an expert computer player.
