Accuracy in Timekeeping, Clocks and development
Time has always been important to civilizations throughout history, despite the fact that is only now, in the modern age we have come to some understanding of what is time.
The story of time has always been important, especially to our agricultural past, to identify events such as what day of the calendar to plant crops or how much time is left until the evening, was crucial.
Our time counting systems have always been based around the movement of the Earth. A year is defined as one complete orbit of the sun as the day is one revolution planet.
This method of solar and lunar time is essential for the way we live our lives, no point of having a system where these days time drift at night and vice versa.
Saying time was very basic to the Middle Ages, when mechanical clocks first appeared in Europe. Before this time sundials watches basic water, and other rudimentary timers the only method of keeping track of the hours past.
Mechanical watches first were not very accurate and was based on a vanishing point-and-foliot (a gear system to advance the gear train at regular intervals or "ticks"), but soon new technologies, such as pendulum clocks means that increasingly became increasingly accurate.
The next big step in the maintenance time of wine with the development of the crystal oscillator in the first half of the twentieth century. These new electronic watches were more accurate than their mechanical counter-parties which was based on a vibrating crystal (often quartz) in the range when an electric current is passed through.
Although the clocks became smaller and more sophisticated, the accuracy certainly not be achieved until the development of atomic clocks in the 1950s. The atomic clock uses the resonance of the atoms individual (in most cases of cesium), had such an accurate of 9,192,631,770 oscillations per second that the International System of Units (SI) define a second as the number of oscillations of the cesium atom.
In fact, while the electronic clock may lose a second every week or so, watches atomic not lose a second in several million years.
This precision, however, has been shown to cause some problems. Because of this precision soon found that the rotation of the Earth, which we based our time system for millennia was not as accurate as our watches.
Due to the severity of the moon from Earth, the Earth is slowing down gradually each year. while the slowdown of the rotation of the Earth is less than a second per year, if not accounted days the time was slipping into night and vice versa (although in several millennia) to provide a system of waste time.
The only solution has been to include seconds additional or less each year to the International Timeline (known as UTC or Coordinated Universal Time). These leap seconds as they are called are seen by some as a sweet sugar agreement specified time and want to abolish them, while others (including the world's astronomers) argue that are essential for monitoring night and day.
There are lots of ways to keep accurate time, the best solution is to use a dedicated NTP server to receive a time signal from a time clock While atomic transmission through a radio or GPS. Dedicated clocks and Ethernet clocks are also available that can receive a When an atomic clock.
