It is not just a movie for wrestling fans. Meeting the need to say this, because I'm not a big fan of wrestling, so I was a little reluctant to see this film. I thought I was going to be just wrestling and that is a point, however, is much more about the life story of an aging professional wrestler, with his cousin, and his difficulties with the drop in experience in the ring. The main character Randy, the Ram needs to find a way to feel important because wrestling has spent almost his whole being, ultimately it was all his life. It's sad and lonely in life that he created and gradually has to rediscover itself.
He works in developing a closer bond with those around him, like his stripper girlfriend, played by Marisa Tomei. She is suffering a crisis similar to herself, reaching to be too old for the profession that is in also. Your connection is well developed and believable. Throughout the film, also has some scenes very emotional with his screen daughter, Evan Rachel Wood. He has not been there throughout his life, and is working hard to establish a real relationship with her.
The movie is not true, but it feels that way. It is packed with entertainment and all the tension of authentic existence. Mickey Rourke does not seem to play a role. He turns into this character in a fascinating fighter.
And do not worry, because the story lends itself to some fight scenes. Rourke wrestles with the owner of mobile home park where he lives and the owner of a grocery store, which keeps the action flowing without going overboard.
The wrestler has everything what good movie should. He keeps moving with great hustle. The tension keeps you riveted. You also enjoy the issues that touch us all as hope, love, trust, and family. This film is on the top with the level of acting and directing. If you're a fan of action movies or drama, the film will interest you. Your feelings about professional wrestling should not affect his decision to see this. It's a movie everyone can relate.
